Define Insomnia

How to define insomnia is not as easy as it sounds like. Sometimes people’s definition or diagnosis of insomnia is exaggerated and simple and isolated cases of sleeplessness are tagged as insomnia. As insomnia is a serious affliction, great care must be taken in diagnosing, as you may end up not giving the correct treatments or worse, over treat a person not afflicted with insomnia, giving him more serious problems to deal with.

If we want to define insomnia as the problem afflicting a person, we must first look for the cause of sleeplessness. It can be possible that a person has taken medicines or taken food or drink that could cause him to lose sleep. If there seem to be no causes and the sleeplessness is recurring for more than a few days, one must seek treatment or medical opinion immediately.

Another way to define insomnia is identifying the feelings and symptoms that come along with it. People afflicted with insomnia may have blurry vision that cannot be corrected by prescription glasses. This is due to the lack of rest the eyes get. Also, grogginess and tiredness also accompany insomnia, because a person clearly lacks rest due to the problem. Another symptom is a seemingly unexplained feeling of depression. A person may be depressed for different reasons, and the lack of sleep can be one solid reason for this depression.

While it’s quite hard to define insomnia or pinpoint its causes, it surely can be treated. Whenever you feel the previously stated symptoms of restlessness and altered feelings for extended periods of time, be quick to see a doctor. When you do find a cure for insomnia, your world will be a brighter and more energetic world.
